Training for Families and Primary Caregivers

Over the years I have developed various training programmes specifically for the parents, siblings and primary caregivers of disabled people and those with an injury or illness.

This training provides tools for advocating and will cover issues that many of these people face.

What topics are covered?

Below is an overview of these programmes. Click on these links for further information. I can also 'tailor-make' a training programme to meet the needs of a group of parents, siblings and/or primary caregivers.

Family/Caregiver Training Background
Click on this link to see examples of my training experience with family members and primary caregivers.
The Power of Families
With this training I look at the role that families and primary caregivers can play in helping to plan the future of a family member who has a disability, injury or illness.
Dealing with Grief and Disability
Lois Tonkin has written some wonderful resources in relation to dealing with grief. I have adapted these resources with a specific focus on dealing with loss and grief when supporting someone with a disability, injury or illness.
Preparing Disabled Students to Leave School
This training looks at how preparation to leave school can be made a more successful experience, for both the student with a disability, injury or illness and their parents/primary caregivers.
Do you know your rights?
This training covers your rights set out in the Human Rights Act, the Code of Health and Disability Consumers' Rights and the Privacy Act. I can also provide specific training on each piece of legislation.
Speaking Up Workshop
This workshop has been developed to help family members or primary caregivers who would like to be more confident about Speaking Up about the rights of the people they support in Health and Disability Services.
