Knowing Your Rights

What legal rights do disabled people or those with an injury or illness have?

This training covers your rights set out in the Human Rights Act, the Code of Health and Disability Consumers' Rights and the Privacy Act.

Workshop Topics:

The Human Rights Act topics include:

  • What is the Human Rights Act?
  • What is direct and indirect discrimination?
  • The grounds for unlawful discrimination.
  • Which people with disability are covered by this Act?
  • Areas of unlawful discrimination.
  • What is Reasonable Accommodation and the exceptions to this?
  • How this Act affects the way services should be provided for the disability community.

The Code of Health and Disability Consumers' Rights includes what you can expect from staff working within Health and Disability Services. With the Privacy Act, I discuss the safeguards when you disclose disability related information.

Throughout this workshop I discuss a range of practical examples and solutions from my lived and professional experience. I can also provide specific training on each piece of legislation.
