How to make preparation to leave school a more successful experience?
Preparing to leave school can be a scary time for many students with a disability, injury or illness and their parents/primary caregivers.
Over the past 5 years I have coordinated two projects that have looked at how to make this preparation to leave school a more successful experience, for both the student and their support networks.
So what have I learnt?
With both of these projects, I have reviewed national and international information about how to make this preparation more successful.
I have also spoken with students, their parents/primary caregivers, staff from schools and agencies supporting this preparation, to find out what they need to enhance this preparation.
It is clear that there is a simple framework that would help to overcome the barriers to successful preparation of disabled students leaving school.
The workshop looks at: - The key findings of these projects.
- Some of the barriers to successful transition of disabled students leaving school.
- A simple framework for making this preparation to leave school a more successful experience.
This workshop is relevant to parents and primary caregivers, school and agency staff and even students with a disability, injury or illness.
