Positive Disclosure Workshop How much information should you disclose about your disability to an employer or training provider? Do they need to know at all? Should this information be included in a covering letter, curriculum vitae or application form? Should you tell people in an interview, or wait until you start?
This is a set of key questions that many disabled people and those with an injury or illness ask themselves, especially when they are applying for a job, are in employment or considering training. Many people are often afraid to disclose information about their disability, injury or illness because they are not sure how this information will be used or viewed. However there are things that people can do to make disclosure a more positive experience. This workshop discusses: - The advantages and disadvantages of disclosing information about a disability, injury or illness.
- A positive disclosure framework to reduce the risk of other people making negative assumptions about a disability, injury or illness when you disclose.
- The safeguards for disclosure in the Privacy Act.
During the workshop participants are given the opportunity to discuss how people with different conditions can disclose. They also have the opportunity to create a positive disclosure statement that can be used in a covering letter, curriculum vitae, application or interview.
