Speaking Up Sometimes disabled people or those with an injury or illness have a problem with the health or disability service they receive. They would like to talk about this with the people who deliver these services, but find it difficult to discuss the issues with them. This workshop has been developed to help family members or primary caregivers who would like to be more confident about Speaking Up about the rights of the people they support.
I provide Speaking Up workshops in association with the Office of the Health and Disability Commissioner and staff from the National Advocacy Service.
The Code of Consumers' Rights
Everyone who uses a health or disability service has the protection of the Code of Consumers' Rights. There are 10 rights set out in the Code, including your right to respect, dignity, fair treatment and a proper standard of care. This workshop will provide you with solutions for: - Raising issues if you have a problem with the services you receive.
- Feeling confident about Speaking Up for yourself.
- Identifying strengths and resources you can draw on.
We also discuss your rights under Code of Health and Disability Consumers' Rights and provide you with an opportunity to practise Speaking Up.
