Training Within Primary and Secondary Schools

School Students

From time to time I am asked to speak with primary and secondary school students about my experience of disability and how it has shaped me.

Disabled Students and their Support Networks

The training solutions for disabled people and those with an injury or illness are also relevant to students with a disability, injury or illness in schools. This website also has some useful training solutions for the family members and primary caregivers of these students.

School Staff

Many of my staff training programmes are also relevant to staff working in a range of schools. Below is an overview of these programmes. Click on each link to find out more about the specific training programmes that are relevant to staff in schools.

Making Preparation to Leave School a Success

Grief & Disability
Lois Tonkin has written some wonderful resources in relation to dealing with grief. I have adapted these resources with a specific focus on dealing with loss and grief when supporting someone with a disability, injury or illness.
The Disability Community & Their Rights
This training covers the rights set out in the Human Rights Act, the Code of Health and Disability Consumers' Rights and the Privacy Act; and the implications for staff. I can also provide specific training on each piece of legislation.
Supporting Students to Achieve Their Potential
How do you help someone reach for the stars? We discuss new ideas to assist disabled students and those with an injury or illness to achieve their potential.
Supporting Disabled & Deaf Parents at School
Research shows that many disabled and Deaf parents struggle to actively participate in their child’s education at school. Topics include potential barriers they face and practical steps that schools can take to get these parents more involved in their child’s education and in the school community.
